Skirsnemunė Jurgis Baltrušaitis Basic
School is located in Skirsnemunė town (Jurbarkas district municipality, Tauragė
County, Lithuania), on the Nemunas River about 9 km from Jurbarkas. We are a
small rural school with an active community and a strong focus on quality
learning, well‑being and responsibility.
Our school community includes learners from
early childhood (pre‑school) through primary and lower‑secondary education
(basic school). We educate 223 students aged 2–17 and employ 29 teachers and
staff. Small size is our strength: students are known personally, cooperation
with families is close, and learning support can be flexible.
Our values guide everyday life at school:
respect, self‑respect and tolerance; responsibility; community spirit;
leadership; and continuous improvement. Being open to innovations and change,
we create conditions for pupils to acquire basic education and develop
competencies needed for modern life.
Learning is active, practical and often
connected to nature and the local community. Environmental topics are
integrated across subjects and complemented by inquiry‑based activities,
outdoor learning and creative tasks. We also strengthen digital learning
through modern tools and platforms to support engagement and inclusion.
International cooperation is one of our key
directions. Skirsnemunė Jurgis Baltrušaitis Basic School coordinates the
Erasmus+ KA210-SCH small‑scale partnership project “EcoSense: Responsible
Environmental Behaviour Through Digital Innovations” (2025–2027). Together with
partners from Slovakia and Greece, we are developing an interactive EcoSense
methodology, creating a Virtual Learning Centre, and implementing a “Green
Challenge” programme that helps students practice sustainable habits through
daily actions supported by QR codes and online resources.
We have already gained Erasmus+ experience
in earlier projects. In 2022-2024 our school coordinated the Erasmus+ project
“Increasing digital literacy in schools” together with partner schools in Italy
and Greece. The project strengthened teachers’ and students’ digital
competences and focused on practical digital content creation, communication
and collaboration tools for learning.
Our school is also visible in European
networks: the organisation profile on the European School Education Platform
indicates that the school is eTwinning validated. We welcome collaboration with
schools, municipalities, NGOs and community organisations that share our vision
of sustainability, inclusion and innovative education.
